The largest in the Netherlands,
amsterdam rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is an art museum located on the Museumplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is a place where you can find not only works of art, but also crafts and historical records. The Rijksmuseum is most famous for its rich collection of paintings from the Dutch Golden Age, and Asian art is also recognized as being of great value.

The museum building was designed by Dutch architect P. Kuipers in 1885. It is a popular travel attraction visited by about 1 million people a year, and is greatly recognized for its architecture.

프로그램

Including a wealth of paintings
vast collection

The Rijksmuseum, also known as the Rijksmuseum, is famous for its extensive collection of over 8,000 pieces. At the National Gallery, which boasts the largest scale in the Netherlands, you can see works by representative Dutch painters who are well-known to us. In particular, the second floor exhibition room displays various works by Rembrandt, a representative Dutch artist of the 17th century.

Introducing the history of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam

The Rijksmuseum opened in 800 as the Royal Museum of Art in The Hague, the capital of the western Dutch province of Zeit-Holland, and began by exhibiting works of art collected by the governors of the Federal Republic of the Netherlands.

Afterwards, it was moved to Amsterdam by order of King Louis Bonaparte of the Netherlands, and in 1815, its name was changed from the Royal Museum to the Rijksmuseum, giving it its current appearance.

The architect was selected through a contest.

The Rijksmuseum is a beautiful space worth visiting for the building itself. It is said that Pierre Kuipers, a Dutch architect who designed Amsterdam Central Station, designed the current museum building in a competition held in 1876.

The museum is famous for its gorgeous interior and exterior decoration. Famous craftsmen of the time, such as Van Hove for the sculptures and William Dixon for the stained glass, were in charge of the work, and it was completed after about 9 years of construction.

Introducing the collection

The Rijksmuseum houses a variety of works of art, including paintings, crafts, furniture, and prints. Among these, we introduce representative works that should not be missed.

1. Rembrandt ‘Night Patrol – Captain Frans Banningkok’s Company’

2. Rembrandt ‘Bust of a Laughing Young Man’

3. Michel Dumenil ‘Louis XV’s meeting with a Dutch diplomat’

In addition, the collection of sculptures, applied art works, and various Asian art pieces based on the Royal Gallery's collection is also popular.

Introducing exhibitions on each floor

At the Rijksmuseum, the works are displayed in order of the year they were painted, starting from the central lobby. Take an artistic journey through the times, starting from the 1100s to the 2000s.

The most important works are on display in the central hall on the second floor, so don't miss out on viewing them.
