• Octopus Card for children aged 3 - 11 can be purchased at MRT stations (excluding Race Course stations) for 50HKD + 50HKD deposit.
• Hong Kong Octopus Card Rental (includes HKD150) HKD11 excluding service fee, deposit will be deducted when returning Octopus Card.

How to use the Octopus Card through the Octopus app

1. Use an Android phone

• Download the “Octopus” app for Android. here
• Place Octopus in the NFC area of your mobile device (or simply press "Lookup" on your Octopus mobile SIM), then tap "Details" to check the status or reactivate Octopus.
• After checking the status of Octopus, if you want to reactivate the disabled Octopus, press “ACTIVATE”.
• Place Octopus in the NFC area of your mobile device and wait until activation is complete.

• Download the Octopus app. here
• Place your Octopus card on the top back of your mobile device. To activate Status or Octopus, tap “Details” in the Octopus app to confirm.
• To activate the disabled Octopus, click “ACTIVATE”.
• Place Octopus on the top back of your mobile device/Octopus Mobile Reader until reactivation is complete.

How to get a card refund

If you have a remaining balance of less than 500 HKD

• You can receive a refund from the MTR Customer Service Center in one of the following ways:
• Transfer to another Octopus card
• Transfer to Octopus Card for Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Huawei Pay
• cash

If you have a balance of 500 HKD or more

• You can return it to any MTR customer service center. You'll need to fill out the form and choose one of the following refund methods:
• Refund to Octopus Wallet (Must be Plus or Pro account)
• Refund to bank account through FPS (You must provide 1. phone number, 2. email, or 3. bank account number/bank code and registered FPS information.)
• We will notify you of the refund agreement within 9 business days.
