With the largest collection of art in the world,
Uffizi Gallery
The Uffizi Gallery is one of the largest art collections in the world and is a must-see when visiting Florence. The Uffizi Gallery was originally built as an administrative office by the Medici family, but was turned into a museum by Francesco Medici. Since then, a huge number of works of art have been collected, and thanks to the Medici family’s passion for art and culture, a magnificent museum has been completed.
The Uffizi Gallery is divided into the second and third floors. The exhibition hall on the second floor displays sketches by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, while the third floor displays paintings and sculptures. Come see world-class masterpieces at the Uffizi Gallery.
Must-visit art museums in Florence,
Uffizi Gallery
The Uffizi Gallery is one of the most visited art museums in Italy. It features over 2,500 masterpieces from Byzantine art to the Renaissance, including works by famous artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Giotto, da Vinci, and Raphael.
With over 2 million visitors a year, the Uffizi Gallery is always crowded. Purchase a skip-the-line ticket from WAUG and enter at your designated time.
I recommend viewing from the 3rd floor.
Most of the popular works of art in the Uffizi Gallery are on the third floor, so I recommend starting from the third floor right after entering. The Uffizi Gallery is a long corridor that is connected in a “ㄷ” shape, so it is best to look at them in the order they are displayed. The corridors are splendidly decorated with full-length statues of gods from Greek and Roman mythology and portraits of people who supported the Medici family.
The must-see rooms are Room 3 with Martini's 'Annunciation', the Botticelli Room in the middle, Room 15 with Leonardo da Vinci next to it, Room 25 with Michelangelo, Room 26 with Raphael's works, and Room 28 with Titian's 'Venus of Urbino'. These are the rooms you absolutely must see!
Introducing our most popular exhibition halls
The most popular exhibition room in the Uffizi Gallery is Room 7, which displays paintings from the Florentine School, which was at the beginning of the 15th-century Renaissance. Here, you can see works by Masaccio, known as the master of perspective, and Paolo Uccello, who studied perspective drawing.
Don't miss exhibition rooms 3 and 4, where you'll find paintings by Duccio and his disciples Simone Martini and Rosenthi. Then, in rooms 5 and 6, you'll see paintings in the International Gothic style from the 15th century, including the Adoration of the Magi by Gentile da Fabriano and Lorenzo Monaco.
