Shoryudo Pass travel destination recommendations

1. Takayama
Takayama City, located in the Hida region in northern Gifu Prefecture, still retains historical buildings and traditional culture from the Edo period (1600-1868 AD). This place, popular for its quaint streets, is called ‘Hidadakayama’ and is a tourist destination loved by many people.

2. Shirakawago
Shirakawa-go, located at the sacred mouth of Mt. Hakusan, is a must-see tourist attraction in Gifu Prefecture. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this beautiful traditional village boasts picturesque scenery straight out of a postcard. Here, you can stay in a traditional house built without nails and try Japanese-style moonshine.

3. Kanazawa
Kanazawa is the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, located in the center of Japan's Honshu island. It is famous for its well-preserved Edo period areas, art galleries, and local handicrafts. In particular, Kenrokuen Garden, built in the 17th century, is a must-see destination here and is famous for its classic landscape design with a pond and stream.

4. Matsumoto
In Matsumoto, there is Matsumoto Castle, which is designated as a national treasure. It looks five stories from the outside, but has a six-story structure inside. It is the oldest surviving castle in Japan and the only one among the wooden castles built in the late 16th century. Come see the elegant and beautiful Matsumoto Castle with the Northern Alps in the distance in the background.

5. Magome
This is Magome-juku, where you can see for yourself the tranquil scenery of 17th-century Japan. This place, which combines the architecture of the past and the present, has actual residents living in each house, giving off the atmosphere and feeling of the old days and continuing for 400 years. Magome's house is not an exhibit, but rather a private residence where people actually live, so you need to be careful when visiting or taking pictures. There is a sign indicating whether it is open to the public, so please look carefully before sightseeing.

6. Japanese Alps
Nagano Alps is a travel destination that has everything outdoor sports enthusiasts dream of. Representative attractions include the Kamikochi area, where you can enjoy trekking, the Hakuba area, which boasts excellent snow quality and slopes where the Olympics were held, and the Senjojiki cirque carved out by glaciers. The beautiful mountains and surrounding areas offer fun exploration and adventure!
