Did you know that the route to Mt. Hiei consists of a single-stage cable car and a two-stage ropeway?
The Eizan Ropeway is a means of transportation that travels 486m to the summit of Mt. Hiei in 3 minutes, and you can enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring and the tunnel of autumn leaves through the window. Also, when you reach the summit, you can take a shuttle bus to the World Heritage site Enryakuji Temple or enjoy the enchanting scenery from the observation deck.

Climbing Mount Hiei

Mount Hiei, 848 meters high, is home to Enryaku-ji Temple, founded in 788! This is a popular spot where you can view Kyoto’s traditional scenery, including Lake Biwa, all at once.
There are several ways to get up to Mt. Hiei, but the easiest and most beautiful way is to take the Eizan Cable Car, get off, and then transfer to the ropeway to reach the summit.

After getting off the Eizan Cable Car, take the ropeway that runs 486m to the summit of Mt. Hiei in 3 minutes! It is a simple and comfortable way to get to the summit, and you can see Kyoto, filled with seasonal colors, from the sky.

Take the Eizan Electric Railway and get off at Demachiyanagi Station or Yase Hieizanguchi Station.
From Kyoto Municipal Subway's Kokusai Kaikan Station, take the bus bound for Kyoto Yase/Ohara and get off at Yase-ekimae.
