National Museum of Art, Osaka
Collection 1
The National Museum of Art, Osaka has prepared two exhibitions: the special exhibition "Circles and Rings in Postwar Art" and the year-round exhibition "Collection Highlights." The special exhibition "Circles and Rings in Postwar Art" focuses on "circular forms." Simple yet clear shapes like circles and rings have been recurring in postwar Japanese art in particular, serving as vessels for the artist's various intentions. This exhibition provides an opportunity to think about the role of this "ambiguous circle," which is geometric but lacks corners and is neither irregular nor consistent like an organic form.
The year-round exhibition 'Collection Highlights' showcases the National Museum of Art's representative collection of works as well as recently acquired works. Starting with the artistic practices of Paul Cézanne and Max Ernst from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, the museum's collection will reveal various aspects of modern and contemporary art. You can also enjoy recently acquired works by Joseph Beuys, Takashi Murakami, Maureen Geilers, and Maria Parra throughout the year.
