Moiwayama Observatory and Ropeway

Moiwayama Observatory is located in the center of Sapporo city, 531 meters above sea level. From the top of the mountain, you can see the city of Sapporo, Ishikari Bay, and Mt. Moiwa at a glance.

Using the ropeway that takes you to the Moiwayama Observatory makes it easy to get up to the observatory. Take the ropeway to the top and take in the beautiful scenery. All the scenery passing by outside the window is like a painting.
Moiwayama Observatory is a famous spot that you cannot miss not only during the day but also at night for viewing Sapporo.

Moiwayama Ropeway and Morris Car

The general way to get to the top of Mt. Moiwa is to take the Sapporo Mt. Moiwa Ropeway from Moiwa Sanroku Station, then transfer to a mini cable car called Moriska at Moiwa Chuuku Station and go to Moiwa Sancho Station. They all run approximately every 15 minutes.

The Moiwayama Ropeway ride takes about 1 minute, and the Morriska ride takes about 2 minutes. You can reach the top of the mountain in a short amount of time.


How to get to Moiwa Sanroku Station

If you are coming from JR Sapporo Station to Moiwa Sanroku Station, take the Sapporo City Subway Namboku Line, transfer to the Sapporo City Train at Odori Station, and get off at the ropeway entrance stop. If you take the free shuttle bus here, it will take about 5 minutes. Please note that the shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes.

Since you cannot get to the top of the mountain by car, you can use the parking lot at Moiwa Sanroku Station or the parking lot at Moiwa Chuku Station on the paid Moiwayama Scenic Expressway.

Moimoino Omise
After enjoying the spectacular view of Sapporo for about 5 minutes, before transferring to Morisuka at Moiwa Chuuku Station, stop by the specialty product corner 'Moimoi no Omise', which is immediately visible when you get off. There is no separate gift shop at the top of the mountain, so if you want to buy gifts, I recommend doing so here. In addition to popular Hokkaido snacks, we also sell Iwai Moiwasan limited-edition ramen and original products featuring the Moiwasan mascot character “Morris.” If you feel like it might be a burden while enjoying the view, you can look around before you go and purchase it later.

Small shrine and Moiwa primeval forest
The Morris Car platform is on the right, and you can go outside by entering on the left. When you go outside, there is a small shrine on your left and there is a box where you can get your fortune for 100 yen. Behind it is a wonderful primeval forest. Another attraction of Mt. Moiwa is that you can experience the rich nature by visiting the Moiwa Primeval Forest, which is designated as a natural monument.
