BESTAs a first-time visitor to Sapporo, I knew I had to try the famous crab, and Kaniya Honten seemed like the perfect place. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. We went for one of their course menus, which was a great way to try a variety of crab dishes. The crab sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the boiled king crab was sweet and perfectly cooked. My personal favourite was the crab hotpot, which was full of flavour. The atmosphere was also lovely, with traditional Japanese decor and a quiet, peaceful vibe. The service was excellent. The staff were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. They even had instructions with pictures to show us how to eat the crab, which was really helpful! It’s a bit pricey, but the quality of the food and the overall experience made it completely worth it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Sapporo.

A dish that is specially enjoyed
Sapporo Kaniya Main Store
Kaniya, which means "crab house", is a restaurant specializing in crab-based cuisine, as the name suggests. They serve rare dishes such as crab tofu, crab sashimi, and shaomai, using traditional Hokkaido methods. In particular, the crab hotpot, which boasts a deep and rich flavor using the chef's secret broth, is the signature menu here.
Kaniya is located at Susukino Station, a transportation hub in Sapporo, so it's a perfect place to visit during your convenient schedule and enjoy the special flavor of crab!
We offer a variety of crabs.
Kaniya serves king crabs with thick, savory meat, hairy crabs with green intestines, and queen crabs with sweet meat. In particular, they say they use the highest quality king crabs, caught only for one week a year off the coast of Portomora.
The types of crab included are slightly different depending on the course you choose, so you can reserve a course according to your taste!
