The core theme of the night shrine visit is prayer. Rather than focusing solely on visually appealing lighting, the structure is designed to naturally reflect on the past year and conjure up hopes for the next through light, sound, and spatial presentation. The red pillars and white walls of the Heian Shrine, the tranquil waters of the Shinto Shrine, and the surrounding buildings are bathed in a variety of light and images, creating a landscape that harmonizes the traditional shrine appearance with modern media art. To celebrate the 130th anniversary, a special stamp rally has been prepared for children. This area is where the iconic red gate of Heian Shrine, the Important Cultural Property Untenmon, first greets you. The entire gate is bathed in light, and the shrine and courtyard are faintly revealed beyond, marking the transition from everyday Kyoto to the night of Yorumairi. This is a scene from the entrance, a chance to catch your breath and reflect on your wishes for the evening.

The courtyard in front of the Daigokuden, an Important Cultural Property and the face of Heian Shrine, will be transformed into an interactive art space during this Yorumairi. Together with the Daigokuden, which has reopened after approximately a year and a half of painting and earthquake-resistant construction, this is the key area where you can most strongly experience the special atmosphere of this night.
