Nikko Toshogu Shrine

Nikko Toshogu is a shrine located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, and is one of the most important shrines in Japanese history. Toshogu was completed in 1636, and was registered as a World Cultural Heritage in 1999 in recognition of its splendid decorations and sculptures, as well as its outstanding architectural skills.

: The three monkeys covering their eyes, mouth, and ears are the most famous sculptures at Nikko Toshogu. They mean 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' and are said to represent the pursuit of an ethical and moral life.

: The sleeping cat at the entrance to the tomb of Tokugawa Ieyasu has a meaning that you have to look closely to understand. Toshogu Treasure Hall Set Admission Ticket

Purchase a set of admission tickets to the treasure museum, which houses, exhibits, and displays relics of Tokugawa Ieyasu, offerings from the daimyo family, and ritual instruments from the main shrine!
