History of the Red Light District
The Red Light District is one of the oldest areas in Amsterdam, and was formed in the 13th century. Because it is close to the port, it became a place where sailors of various nationalities often visited, and naturally various forms of entertainment and industry developed. In the 2000s, the sex industry was officially legalized in Amsterdam, and it became the famous Red Light District that we know today. The red light tells people that it is in operation, and the tradition from that time is still maintained to this day.
