From steep powder slopes to long runs, Niigata's Hakkaisan Ski Resort
Muikamachi Hakkaisan Ski Resort is a Prince Snow Resort located in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. Nestled at the foot of Mount Hakkaisan, renowned for its heavy snowfall, you can expect deep, fresh snow almost every day during the peak season. The 81-passenger ropeway ascends an elevation of approximately 770-820 meters in approximately seven minutes, offering a stunning view of the 5.3-5.5km long run from the summit to the base.
The upper section is a downhill course for advanced skiers, featuring steep slopes of up to 35 degrees and sections of uncompressed snow. It's especially popular with riders who enjoy deep powder, bumps, and long, steep slopes. The straight-line course runs around the ropeway line, offering a thigh-burning downhill experience. Conversely, the lower section features the wide, gentle Usagidaira (Rabbit Plains) course, the Chibiko slope, and the sledding area, making it a safe place for beginners and children to practice or play in the snow. The long run from the summit to the base also includes a slow zone, allowing even beginners to slow down and enjoy the scenery as they descend.
Area Introduction

Beginner & Family Course
There's a long beginner course and an Usagidaira course that stretch from the summit slope to the Poplar Plains. With a gentle slope of up to 20 degrees and an average of around 12 degrees, the course is wide and ideal for beginners learning to ski or snowboard or for families to enjoy a leisurely descent. The 5.2-5.5km long course from the summit to the base also features a detour for beginners, allowing for a leisurely descent while enjoying the scenery.
Intermediate Panorama & Carving Course
Hakkaisan's signature downhill course, along with the Jeonkura Course, Separate A Course, and the One section, are the main intermediate areas. With moderate slopes ranging from 16 to 26 degrees and slopes of moderate length, these courses are ideal for practicing long turns and carving while leveraging speed. The downhill line from the summit feels like descending 800 meters in elevation, making it a panoramic cruising course that even intermediate skiers can fully enjoy.
Advanced & Challenge Courses
Advanced courses like the Expert Course, Champion Course, and Separate B Course offer steep slopes of up to 35-38 degrees, coves (bumps), and uncompressed snow sections. Courses range from 300 to 900 meters in length, and the tight yet dense sections make them ideal for advanced riders who want to utilize their speed and technique. During periods of heavy snow, deep powder and moguls naturally form, allowing for completely different riding experiences on the same course depending on the weather.
Kids & Snow Park Zone
At the bottom of the Usagidaira Course, you'll find the Chibiko Ski Resort and a dedicated sledding slope. Even children who can't ski or snowboard yet can enjoy sledding, tubing, and snow play, while parents can enjoy a leisurely practice session on the gentle slopes right next door or watch their children while they relax. Located near the base zone, accessible directly from the lift, this kids' area is a convenient spot for families.
