Staying in an Architect's Home: Belajarbali Villa

Introducing an editor's top pick for a stay in Bali

Directed by Amy

In a place between Ubud's green terraced rice paddies and lush jungle, where the sound of the Ayung River can be heard quietly, there is a space where Balinese tradition and modern architecture meet in their most ideal form. This is Belajarbali Villa, completed by architect Budi Pradono, imbued with his own philosophy.

Architecture in Dialogue with Nature

The architecture of Belajarbali begins with a modern reinterpretation of traditional Balinese house structures. The layout, with the living and dining rooms at the center and bedrooms surrounding them, follows the 'pavilion' concept of a traditional Balinese home.

However, what makes this space special are the 'materials'. The architect completed the building using Bali's most natural materials, such as bamboo, reclaimed wood, and basalt. In particular, the elegant, curved bamboo structure that seems to envelop the entire building gives the impression of a living organism in constant dialogue with the surrounding nature.

Relaxation in a Space Without Boundaries

Every space here is focused on blurring the boundaries between inside and out. When you open all of the living room's massive folding doors, the indoor space becomes a giant terrace that embraces the scenery of the Ayung River valley.

In the outdoor bathroom attached to each bedroom, you can shower while listening to the birds sing, and in the private pool, you can enjoy a swim facing the lush jungle. This is an experience of complete rest, becoming a part of nature without any artificial barriers.

Staying at Belajarbali Villa goes beyond simple lodging; it is to experience the answer to how an architect's philosophy and the nature of Bali can harmonize.
We hope you will add the most profound aesthetic pause to your Bali trip.
