The location and the class itself are great, but the guide is a blue-eyed white man, and the rudeness of the other foreign participants, ridicule of Japanese culture, and taking photos and videos without permission are annoying. It&#39;s like that everywhere, but other than that, the class itself is great.

The ceremony itself was great, as it was learning how to make my own matcha. I had trouble finding the place at first, since the address in the email points to the nearby temple and the reference photo can be taken for one or the other. There is also another Jōtoku-ji temple in Kyoto, so I think pointing out these things in the event data could help avoiding making my same mistake. I ended up being late for my booked slot but the staff on call was very kind and allowed me to go on the next slot.

It was a beautiful experience. The tea ceremony was held in a very beautiful location, an authentic temple located in the city amidst the palaces. Tranquil atmosphere. The lady who explained the tea ceremony with historical and practical details was extremely clear, in understandable English. Recommended.

Start your tour of the temple with a traditional purification ritual, a completely unique and insightful experience. Then, take off your shoes at the entrance to the grand tea room, go inside with your group, sit down, and taste the finest matcha. Don't worry, the tea master will guide you through the entire process, showing and explaining everything.

Also, while drinking matcha, you will learn how to drink matcha and be reminded of the importance of matcha tea ceremony.
