Now famous for its neon-lit streets, Dotonbori was originally a theater district where Kabuki and Bunraku flourished. The museum shows how Dotonbori grew into a center of Kabuki and Bunraku, the figures who shaped it, and stories of its historic theaters and famous restaurants.

Step into a recreation of the Edo-period Namikiza theater

Feel the atmosphere of a theater once crowded with audiences in the Edo period (1603-1868) in a recreation of the historic Namikiza. Interactive exhibits explain the meaning of Kabuki's colorful costumes and distinctive makeup, its music and the other elements that make up Kabuki and Bunraku.

Take a photo on the Mawari-butai revolving stage

You can step onto a replica of the Mawari-butai, the revolving stage used in Kabuki performances. A smartphone guide in 5 languages (Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean and Spanish) can be rented from the staff inside the museum.
