from Kyoto's rivers to the sea

Kyoto Aquarium opened in 2012 and, under the theme "Life connected with water," exhibits about 15,000 creatures of around 250 species. It consists of 10 areas, including the "Kyoto River" area recreating the natural environment of the Kamogawa and Yuragawa Rivers and the "Kyoto Sea" area introducing marine life from Kyoto's rich sea.

Meet giant salamanders, seals and penguins

See a variety of creatures up close, including Japanese giant salamanders living in Kyoto's rivers, seals, penguins and fur seals. Don't miss the "Kyoto Sea" large tank spanning two floors and "Jellyfish Wonder" with about 5,000 jellyfish of around 30 species.
