This English-guided group tour covers Kuala Lumpur's top landmarks and the Batu Caves in a single day. In the morning, climb the 272 steps leading to the Hindu temple on a limestone hill, see the golden statue of Murugan, and watch a traditional batik painting demonstration at a batik showroom. In the afternoon, stop by city landmarks such as the Royal Palace (Istana Negara), the National Mosque, Merdeka Square and the River of Life, and finish with photos at the Petronas Twin Towers. It is a great fit for first-time visitors to Kuala Lumpur or travelers short on time.
This group (SIC) tour is split into a morning of Batu Caves and cultural experiences and an afternoon city tour of Kuala Lumpur. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking guide who shares insights into Malaysia's history, culture and traditions. Hotel pickup takes place between 8:45 and 9:15 AM; if you are staying outside the free pickup area, meet the group at the main entrance of Berjaya Times Square at 9:15 AM.
First, watch skilled artisans demonstrate traditional batik painting at a batik workshop and showroom, and browse locally made handicrafts.
Next, head to the Batu Caves, one of Malaysia's most important Hindu sites. Climb the colorful 272 steps to the temple on the limestone hill and admire the towering golden statue of Murugan. After the guide introduces the history, cultural significance and visiting tips of the Batu Caves, you have free time to explore the cave complex.
On the way back to Kuala Lumpur, you can see local villages and suburban scenery from the window. Around 1:00 PM, you are dropped off at Berjaya Times Square to have lunch or browse the mall, then meet the guide again at the main entrance at 2:30 PM to continue the city tour.
Stop at the National Museum (exterior photo stop), the exterior of Istana Negara, the official residence of the King of Malaysia, the National Monument honoring fallen heroes, and the National Mosque with its modern Islamic architecture (exterior photo stop). See colonial-era buildings at the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Merdeka Square, and enjoy the view of the River of Life where the Klang and Gombak rivers meet.
If you like, you can taste and shop for Malaysian chocolate at a cocoa boutique. Finally, take photos at the Petronas Twin Towers; the tour ends around 5:30 PM with drop-off at your hotel or the original pickup point.
