This day tour from Fukuoka visits six gardens and shrines in Saga Prefecture in one day. Start at Kamado Shrine, known for blessings of good relationships, then visit Kunenan, Saga's only national scenic-spot garden (open November 14–29; Niiyama Shrine at other times). You also see Kankyo Geijutsu no Mori with over 10,000 maple trees, the Edo-period garden Mifuneyama Rakuen (admission included) and Yutoku Inari Shrine, one of Japan's three great Inari shrines. Lunch is a set menu at a Mitsuse chicken restaurant in Yoshinogari.
Depart early from Lawson near Hakata Station and arrive after about 45 minutes at Kamado Shrine, known for blessings of good relationships and as an anime pilgrimage site, spending 30 minutes there. Then visit Kunenan, Saga's only national scenic-spot garden, admiring the thatched sukiya-style residence, moss-covered grounds and forest views through wooden lattice windows (admission extra). Kunenan is open only from November 14 to 29; at other times, Niiyama Shrine is visited instead.
At noon, enjoy a fixed set menu worth 1,000 yen for about 40 minutes at Yoshinogari Mitsuse-dori Honpo, a restaurant specializing in Saga's Mitsuse chicken. Extra orders are at your own cost. In the afternoon, explore Kankyo Geijutsu no Mori, famous for over 10,000 maple trees and a mirror pond reflecting the forest, for about 30 minutes (admission extra).
Stroll the ponds and paths of Mifuneyama Rakuen, a 500,000 m² Edo-period garden set against the cliffs of Mt. Mifune, for 40 minutes (admission included). Finally, spend about 1 hour at Yutoku Inari Shrine, one of Japan's three great Inari shrines, walking through its red main hall and torii tunnel and looking over the mountains from the Okunoin viewpoint. Then return to Hakata by bus.
※ On weekends and Japanese holidays, the route, order of visits and time at each stop may change due to traffic or early closures.
