from the Edo Period to the Present

Minokichi was established in 1716 as one of the eight fresh fish shops designated by the Kyoto Prefecture during the Edo period and still makes significant contributions to the Kyoto culinary industry. It moved to its current address in 1950, and in 1992, it changed its name to 'Takeshigero', meaning 'restaurant with a bamboo forest'. Kyoto, the old capital of Japan, has developed unique food forms according to the flow of history, including royal cuisine, vegetarian refined cuisine originating from Zen Buddhism, and simple Chakaiseki cuisine.

With its unique aesthetic sense, Kyoto-style Kaiseki cuisine has been highly praised and has become a part of traditional Japanese culture and art. Takeshiro is a restaurant that perfectly inherits this traditional Kaiseki. In particular, taste the praised fish dishes from 'Minokichi Honten Takeshigero', which was frequented by the Mikado (Emperor) during the Meiji era, through fresh Kaiseki.
