Zoo admission is included, so you can take about 100 minutes to see more than 800 animals. Then visit the lone Christmas Tree standing in the snowfield, Shirahige Waterfall which turns into an ice waterfall in winter, and the turquoise Blue Pond. Meet winter animals up close
at Asahiyama Zoo
Depart at 8:00 AM from the bus parking lot at Sapporo Station North Exit and travel about 150 minutes by bus to Asahikawa. Asahiyama Zoo is Japan's northernmost zoo and one of the most popular zoos in Japan, home to more than 800 animals. Admission is included, so you can explore freely for about 100 minutes, making it great for family trips.
You travel between attractions by 22–49-seater coach. A guide accompanies the tour, but no commentary is provided inside the attractions. Lunch is on your own at the attractions, at your own expense.
Visit the Christmas Tree and Shirahige Waterfall
Spend about 15 minutes taking photos at the Christmas Tree, a lone tree standing in an endless snowfield. Then spend about 20 minutes at Shirahige Waterfall. Named for its water that falls softly like a white beard, it freezes mid-flow in winter to form a blue ice waterfall.
Admire the mysterious colors of the Blue Pond
The Blue Pond in Biei is an artificial pond famous for its unique turquoise water. Its formation is linked to the 1988 eruption of Mt. Tokachidake in Daisetsuzan National Park, and minerals such as aluminum hydroxide in the water give it shades of aquamarine, emerald green and cobalt blue. You'll stay about 15 minutes.
Enjoy animals and snow play at Farm's Chiyoda
Spend about 70 minutes at Farm's Chiyoda, a snow-covered ranch. Interact with animals such as alpacas and deer, and enjoy snow play and ranch food amid the forest snowscape. Snowmobile rides are available at your own expense, paid on site. Then travel about 120 minutes by bus, arriving near the bus parking lot at Sapporo Station North Exit around 6:00 PM.
