Saariselkä Backcountry Skiing Guided Tour

Leave the groomed trails and
ski through Finnish forests and hills

Explore the vast Finnish wilderness on a backcountry skiing tour. Instead of following set routes, choose your own path through the forests and hills as you ski across the snow. With a guide by your side, even first-time backcountry skiers can enjoy it with confidence.

Get fitted with wide, long backcountry skis

Meet your guide at the meeting point and get equipped with backcountry skis. These skis are longer and wider than regular cross-country skis, making them ideal for deep, soft snow. If you have skiing experience, they are easy to ride, and for beginners they are usually easier than cross-country skis.

Look out for birds, hares and reindeer

Outside the marked trails, you have a better chance of seeing local wildlife such as birds, hares and reindeer. Take in the quiet, snow-covered forests and hills as you make your way along.

Finish your adventure with a hot drink

After the adventure, relax with a hot drink before returning to the starting point. The 4-hour tour option includes a campfire.

※ Wildlife lives in its natural habitat, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.
