Rotterdam Spido Harbour Cruise: The City from the Water

From the Erasmus Bridge to Waalhaven in 75 minutes

2026.11.08Directed by Travel Insider Tony

Rotterdam is a port city that has grown alongside the Nieuwe Maas River. Out on the river, you can take in the whole city at a glance, with its bridges, high-rises and harbor joined into one view.

Spido, a familiar name to Rotterdam locals for more than 100 years, runs cruises that depart from Willemsplein at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge. The course takes about 75 minutes, covering both the city and the harbor.

This tour is well-suited for first-time visitors to Rotterdam, those who want to see the bigger picture of the city in a short time, and families traveling with children.

River Views from Erasmus Bridge to De Hef

The ship leaves Willemsplein and heads along the Nieuwe Maas River towards Erasmus Bridge, Noordereiland, and Willemsbrug. Bridges you know from the riverbank look completely different when you look up at them from the water.

Upon entering the Koningshaven, the ship makes a 180-degree turn in front of the old railway bridge, De Hef. At this point, you can also see Markthal and Cube Houses beyond the bridge.

On days with high water levels, the ship may not be able to pass under Willemsbrug, and the route may differ from the usual.

Rotterdam Harbor with Cranes and Ships

The ship then passes the skyline, heading towards the harbor via Scheepvaartkwartier, Euromast, and Lloydkwartier. The course is roughly two-thirds city views and one-third harbor.

After passing IJsselhaven and crossing the river to RDM and Waalhaven, you can see the busy working port up close, with its shipping companies and ship maintenance yards.

The onboard audio commentary is available in Dutch, English, and German. By scanning a QR code on your table, you can access route information in Japanese, Chinese, and other languages.

Returning Past Hotel New York: What to Know Before You Go

On the way back, the boat sails via Maashaven past the former passenger ship SS Rotterdam. You then see Katendrecht, Hotel New York, the Cruise Terminal and De Rotterdam before returning to Willemsplein.

The pier is located at Willemsplein 85. From Rotterdam Central Station, take tram 3 or 5 and get off at the Leuvehaven stop.

Departure times vary by season. From November to mid-December 2026, there is one departure daily at 2 PM on Mondays to Wednesdays, and four departures daily from Thursdays to Sundays. Cancellation policies differ depending on your chosen ticket, so be sure to check in advance.

You can purchase drinks and snacks on board, but outside food is not permitted. If you want to see Rotterdam's bridges and harbor all at once from the water, consider hopping on the Spido cruise.
