If you're looking for a place to spend a day with your kids while visiting Rotterdam, consider Blijdorp Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp).
Established in 1857 and run by the Royal Zoological Society of Rotterdam, it houses a diverse collection of animals and plants from around the world within its approximately 25-hectare park. You can reach the entrance near the Riviera Hall in just over 10 minutes on foot from behind Rotterdam Central Station.
With both indoor and outdoor exhibits, it's a great option for a family trip, even when the weather is a bit chilly.
Oceanium: Walk Through a Tunnel with Sharks Swimming Overhead

The first stop for many at Blijdorp is the indoor aquarium, the Oceanium. Your journey here begins in the North Sea and concludes back in the North Sea.
The shark tunnel crosses the largest tank, home to North Sea species. As you walk through, sharks and sea turtles glide peacefully overhead.
From the coral reefs on the lower level, you'll pass through living coral tanks and arrive at an area replicating the Caribbean coast. In the shallows, rays are there to greet you.
From African Savanna to Himalayan Forests

After the aquarium, you'll journey across continents to encounter different animals. In the African savanna, you can see giraffes and zebras coexisting.
In the Asian section, look for Asian elephants, and in the Himalayan area, which retains the charm of the old zoo, you can find red pandas. Throughout the park, 21 designated national monuments add to the enjoyment of your stroll.
There are scheduled feeding times for animals like penguins and sea lions daily. Checking the official app or website for the day's schedule can help you plan a more fulfilling visit.
Things to Know Before Visiting in Winter

Blijdorp is open every day of the year, but closing times are earlier in winter than in summer. Operating hours can vary depending on the day, season, and public holidays, so it's best to check the official website before your visit.
Tickets are valid only for the date specified, and you can present your e-ticket, received via email or the WAUG app, at the entrance. Changes and cancellations are difficult after booking confirmation, so it's advisable to finalize your plans before purchasing.
Remember to bring your passport or ID when entering. If you'd like to explore underwater tunnels and lush forests in a single day, consider adding Blijdorp Zoo to your Rotterdam itinerary.
