On this outdoor tour, you'll discover the origins of the Olympic Games in ancient Athens and fire up your muscles with a workout designed for Olympic athletes. A certified sports trainer leads the session in English, and it's designed so that all ages can enjoy it together.
Warm up at the Zappeion and hear Olympic stories
The tour begins with a warm-up at the Zappeion, a neoclassical building in the heart of the National Garden of Athens. The Zappeion was the first building constructed specifically for the revival of the Olympic Games in 1896.
Learn in detail what role the ancient Olympics played in Greek society and how athletes trained as the Games evolved. Along with some old sports trivia to share with friends, you'll hear how the modern Games were proposed, organised and held in Athens more than 1,500 years after the last ancient Olympics.
Practise ancient events at Athens' oldest gym
Next, head to Athens' oldest gym, built in the 19th century, and stretch your muscles with classic techniques from ancient events such as the discus and javelin throw. You'll also practise modern events such as the shot put and long jump.
Run on the track of the Panathenaic Stadium
Finally, arrive at the Panathenaic Stadium, built entirely of marble. Finish the tour with a race on the very track where the first modern Olympians competed in 1896. The tour ends in front of the stadium.
