Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium is full of attractions

Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium, located in Miyagi Prefecture, is an aquarium with excellent accessibility and rich marine resources. The Umino-Mori Aquarium, which seems to have transplanted the Sanriku Sea as it is, displays 50,000 marine creatures of over 300 species in more than 100 large tanks.

Among them, a large tank measuring 13m wide and 6.5m high recreates the abundant sea of Sanriku. Enjoy Tohoku's largest dolphin and sea lion show, and a cute penguin show.

Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium is an interactive aquarium where you can directly participate, watch, and touch, rather than just passively looking around. You can feed penguins and watch dolphin and sea lion shows usually 3 times a day. If you visit the sea lion's room after the performance and call it, the sea lion will come out of the water to shake hands and take a commemorative photo with you, making for even more special memories.

Right next to the stadium, there is a museum shop selling snacks and souvenirs. It's a great place to browse with kids, as it sells various animal dolls and stationery goods. Also, shark nuggets made from shark meat and original condensed milk mochi sold only at the museum shop are famous, so we recommend you try them!

Umino-Mori Aquarium is even more special as it exhibits not only marine life found in Asia but also various creatures from America, Europe, Oceania, and Africa. In particular, we recommend visiting the Oceania exhibition on the 2nd floor, where you can see the unique fish of the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef area!
