Beautiful medieval city,
Meet the castle of Carcassonne
Carcassonne attracts as many visitors every year as the more famous Mont Saint-Michel. Even if you don’t know this city, visiting this place will stimulate your imagination. With 2,500 years of history and massive 13th-century fortified walls, watchtowers, ramparts, and castles, it is reminiscent of medieval siege warfare. The museum (included with admission) also brings this fascinating history to life.
Your entrance ticket allows you to walk through the Kongtal Castle and the massive double walls with 52 watchtowers surrounding the ancient village. You can also visit the 14th century Daewoo Museum.
Napoleon decided to demolish the building in the 19th century, but fortunately the campaign to save Carcassonne was successful and it was restored. That's how it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
