The History of La Fenice Theatre

La Fenice Theatre was designed by Italian architect Gian Antonio Selva in 1774 and opened in 1792. It was beloved as the most splendid and modern theater in Venice at the time, but it was destroyed by fire just 18 years after its opening. Subsequently, the theater was rebuilt with donations from the citizens of Venice, and the new La Fenice Theatre opened in 1837. The new theater gained even greater popularity with its lavish decorations and excellent acoustics, establishing itself as one of the central stages for Italian opera.
