History of the Royal Palace of Madrid

The Royal Palace of Madrid was originally a palace used by the Kingdom of Castile called Alcázar de Madrid, built in the Mudéjar style. Later, after the Trastámara dynasty was discontinued and passed to the Habsburg dynasty, Madrid became the capital and was rebuilt by Juan Bautista de Toledo. Afterwards, spiers symbolizing the Spanish Empire were built on both sides, giving it its current unique appearance.

After being destroyed by a fire on Christmas Eve in 1734, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style by the Italian architect Filippo Juvarra, which is the Royal Palace of Madrid we see today.
