Popular attractions in San Giorgio Maggiore,
Fortuny Museum
A must-visit place when traveling to Venice. Let me introduce you to the Fornuti Museum located on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. You can encounter Venetian customs and traditions, and even see eye-popping wooden lintels and marble columns inside. This is a new place created by designer Mariano Fortuny to restore the palace and regain its lost beauty. Inside, there are works by various designers.
History of the Fortuny Museum
Artist Mariano Fortuny , born in Granada, Spain in 1871, purchased Palazzo Fortuny in 1902 and used it as his residence and work space. Fortuny devoted himself to his creative activities in the island's quiet environment, leaving behind a variety of works depicting the island's landscape and people.
After Fortuny died in 1949, his wife Henriette Nigrin donated Palazzo Fortuny to the Italian government and it was reborn as the current museum.
