A new underwater world
Try it out
An opportunity to see various species of sharks, stingrays, and other marine life up close! Unlike viewing marine life through glass at a typical aquarium, Irukanji Shark & Ray Encounters offers a unique experience that can only be enjoyed here.
Enjoy special experiences such as feeding and petting sharks and stingrays on the beach, and dipping your toes in the shallow lagoon. There is an outdoor hot shower, so you can warm yourself up by taking a shower after the experience.
Spending time at an experiential aquarium
special time
Irukanji Shark & Ray Encounters is a special experiential aquarium where you can experience not just seeing marine life, but meeting and interacting with it up close.
Walk the shallow beach or sit on the rocks to feed and pet various species of sharks and rays. Before you know it, you will find yourself surrounded by curious and friendly sharks and rays. You can learn a lot through interaction with a variety of marine life, and through educational talks with knowledgeable keepers , you can learn more about the animals that live here and the importance of the marine ecosystem.
2020, new rebirth!
Irukanji Shark & Ray Encounters began operating in November 2014, and was renovated and reopened with new facilities in July 2020. The new center is significantly larger than its predecessor, using over 430,000 liters more water than its predecessor, giving marine animals more space to roam. This also means adding new activities for visitors to enjoy, including deep-sea snorkeling and encounters with larger animals.
Every part of the new center has been built to be as naturalistic as possible, with a focus on the welfare and lifestyle of the animals. A large lagoon with a sandy beach, a reef with many caves, crevices and holes, and strong currents not only make visitors feel more comfortable, but also provide a much richer experience and exploration.
Please prepare together
Since you will be entering shallow water for the experience, you should bring shorts, a skirt, or pants that can be rolled up, and a change of dry clothes. It would be even better if you bring a hat to protect yourself from the sun, sunscreen (safe for coral reefs), and an underwater camera. However, most of the marine animals here are nocturnal species, so please don't use the flash!
Additionally, to prevent chemicals from entering the water, do not apply or spray creams, lotions, or insect repellent. Please note that you can use the shower to wash off chemicals from your body before entering the water!
