Traveling Takachiho Smartly
The best way
Takachiho Gorge is a place that requires a vehicle to get to, so it’s difficult to get there alone. However, if you don’t want to rent a car or go on a full-fledged tour, how about this method?
From central Kumamoto, you can take a direct bus to Takachiho, where you can explore the valley and shrines during your free time. You can also visit famous restaurants without waiting, including a meal of local specialty Takachiho beef.

Plenty of free time,
Takachiho, where we can enjoy ourselves
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the tour schedule and itinerary? If so, we're introducing a tour that provides transportation and meals, with free time to create your own itinerary!
Departing from central Kumamoto, take the direct bus to Takachiho and freely visit the places you desire. Since the guide only assists with vehicle guiding, there's no set route; simply meet at the meeting point, allowing you to adjust the itinerary to suit your pace.
A must-see, Takachiho Gorge

Takachiho Gorge is a place of columnar jointing that was formed a long time ago when lava rapidly cooled.
There is a small wooden observation deck at the top of the rock, offering perfect views of the cascading waterfall and boats circling below the 17-meter-high Manai Falls.
Of course, you can also row yourself! Check out the boat's operation here and enjoy the leisurely pace of the canyon.
Takachiho Shrine

The Takachiho region is known as the birthplace of Japanese mythology, similar to the Dangun myth of Korea. Among them, Takachiho Shrine is the largest shrine in terms of size and history, having been built approximately 1,900 years ago.
It is said that if you hold hands with your family or lover and walk three times around two giant pine trees with their roots intertwined, your descendants will enjoy great wealth and prosperity!
Also, unlike other shrines in Japan, it is said to blend perfectly with the surrounding natural landscape thanks to its earthy color rather than the bright red color. So, be sure to visit.
Takachiho's famous beef restaurant, Chihonoie

At "Chiho no Ie," nestled in a valley, you can savor a traditional meal surrounded by nature. Takachiho beef is a local specialty, and you can enjoy a refined Korean meal that preserves its original flavor without having to wait!
For more detailed menu information, please visit the restaurant's official website .
