Our tour guide, Leigh, was a great storyteller and made the tour interesting and engaging, even for our 16 year old (which is a great achievement!).

Tim was fantastic! He was a great conversationalist and made sure to ask us what our interests were so that we could spend more time in those areas. We somehow managed to get the tour all to ourselves which was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed learning from him and talking with him about new discoveries, theories, and plans for our scientific future. He had a great knowledge of the museum and history in general, a real life-long learner! I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a way to see the highlights of the museum and learn a lot of interesting tidbits along the way.

Program

A More Enriching and Fun Experience:
Natural History Museum Guided Tour

This tour allows you to explore the National Museum of Natural History with a professional guide for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Home to the world's largest natural history collection, the museum boasts around 6,000 exhibits, including the Hope Diamond, mummies, a Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil, and a life-size model of a North Atlantic right whale. This tour is recommended for its intimate group size of up to 8 people, allowing for a more detailed and in-depth understanding of the stories shared by your guide.

Tour Highlights

The Hope Diamond & Gem Hall
Witness the legendary Hope Diamond, a 45.52-carat gem radiating a brilliant blue hue. Marvel at rare and priceless jewels like the world's largest faceted aquamarine, the Pedro II, and the Star of Asia sapphire, all casting a mystical glow.

Ancient Egyptian Mummies Exhibit
View actual Egyptian mummies and funerary artifacts preserved through millennia. This special space offers a close encounter with ancient beliefs about the afterlife and the mysteries of civilization.

Ocean Hall & 45-ton Whale Phoenix
Explore a massive aquarium replicating a living coral reef ecosystem, alongside a life-size model of the 45-ton North Atlantic right whale, which the museum has studied for decades. Experience the vibrant marine ecosystem brought to life before your eyes.

Fossil Hall & Dinosaur Exhibits
Discover fossils of giant dinosaurs and traces of ancient life forms. Observe researchers restoring and studying fossils through a glass window, adding an educational dimension to your visit.

Mammal Hall
Encounter lifelike models and actual specimens of large terrestrial mammals such as giraffes, elephants, and polar bears. Feel as if you've stepped into the heart of the wild.

Narwhal Exhibit
Examine the unique tusks and ecological characteristics of the Arctic narwhal, often called the 'unicorn of the sea.' Learn about the fascinating adaptations of creatures thriving in the harsh polar environment.

"This is an essential tour that allows you to efficiently see the key treasures within the museum, which is as large as 18 football fields, thanks to the guide's seamless navigation."
