How to Use Your Interrail Mobile Pass
Your Interrail Austria Pass is a mobile pass, so no physical exchange is needed.
1. Purchase your Interrail Austria Mobile Pass on WAUG.
2. Within 24 hours of booking, you'll receive an email with a link to activate your pass.
3. Download the Rail Planner app to use your mobile pass.
4. Follow the link in your email, enter the required information, and add your pass to the Rail Planner app.
5. Activate your pass and set your travel start date.
6. Add your desired trains for your travel dates in the app and enjoy your journey.
Information on Changing from Eurail to Interrail
As of September 10, 2026, Eurail and Interrail have merged under the single Interrail brand. Now, you can use the same Interrail Pass regardless of your country of residence.
What has changed from the previous Eurail Pass?
The available rail network and pass benefits remain the same as the previous Eurail Pass. For residents outside of Europe, the brand name of the pass has fundamentally changed from Eurail to Interrail.
Can I still use my previously purchased Eurail Pass?
Yes. Previously issued Eurail mobile and paper passes can be used without exchange until their original expiry date.
Can residents outside of Europe use the Interrail Pass?
Yes. Residents outside of Europe can now use the Interrail Pass. However, some country-specific passes may have different usage conditions depending on your country of residence.
Can I still use the Rail Planner app?
Yes. You can continue to plan your trips and use your pass in the Rail Planner app as before. Previously issued Eurail mobile passes may continue to be displayed as 'Eurail Pass' within the app.

How To Use
- Download the Rail Planner app to use your Interrail Pass. Download for Android / Download for iOS
- An email with a link to activate your pass will be sent within 24 hours of purchase.
- Use the link provided in the email to enter your details and add the pass to your Rail Planner app.
- Activate your pass and set your travel start date.
- Search for trains within the Rail Planner app that fit your travel plans and add your intended journeys to your pass.
- For trains requiring seat reservations, you must book your seats separately, which may incur additional fees.
- The pass must be activated within 11 months of purchase and can be used on non-consecutive days within the chosen validity period.
- All chosen travel days must be used within 1 month of the first travel day. (e.g., for a 3-day Austria Pass, you can choose any 3 days within a 1-month period).
- If you take a night train arriving the next day, it counts as only one travel day if you do not change trains after midnight. (e.g., a train departing at 7:00 PM on January 2nd and arriving at 4:00 AM on January 3rd counts only January 2nd as a travel day).
- If you plan to use international trains that cross into other countries, please verify that your pass is valid for the intended country and route.
