The Hakone Ropeway is an aerial gondola line connecting four iconic Hakone stations: Sounzan, Owakudani, Ubako, and Togendai. It's a unique mode of transportation that allows you to experience the mountains, lakes, and volcanoes that define Hakone all at once. Ride the cable car up the mountainside to Sounzan, then take the ropeway to soar into the sky.
The most popular section is undoubtedly the one that crosses Owakudani, a volcanic region with billowing sulfurous fumes. Below the gondola, white smoke and rugged rock face the volcanic landscape, contrasted with the green mountains and lake in the distance, creating a breathtaking vista. On clear days, even Mount Fuji is clearly visible, creating a truly postcard-worthy scene. Disembark at Owakudani Station and explore the volcanic region, famous for its black eggs. Then, take the ropeway back down to Togendai on Lake Ashinoko, where you can seamlessly continue on to the next stop: a pirate ship cruise.

While the Hakone Ropeway can be used as a standalone ticket, combining it with a pass that includes access to the Hakone Tozan Line, buses, cable cars, and pirate ships makes your journey much smoother.
