Take a historic mountain train from Nice-Ville station into the Alpine valleys on this full-day tour to explore two medieval villages with an expert guide. Ride along the railway laid in the early 20th century, passing viaducts, tunnels, and canyons while listening to live commentary about the line. Walk through narrow alleys hiding Baroque chapels and churches, enjoy a guided tour of a Franciscan monastery, and savor lunch at a village restaurant. Escape the hustle of the coastal city and experience the scenery and history of Alpine mountain villages in a single day.

Meet your guide at Nice-Ville Station at 8:00 AM and head to the Alps on a train ride of about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Riding the Royal Baroque Route / Salt Road train, which has resumed operations after major renovations, you will quickly travel from the coast deep into the Alpine peaks. Your guide will share the history of this railway line, filled with viaducts and tunnels, as well as stories of the shared French-Italian heritage of the region.

In the first village, you will have about 4 hours for a guided walking tour, free time, and photos. Explore Baroque chapels and churches hidden in the labyrinth-like narrow alleys of this medieval village, and listen to the legend of St. Francis of Assisi during a guided tour of the Franciscan monastery. The walk up to the monastery is quite steep; if it is too strenuous, you may skip it and enjoy free time in the village instead. For lunch, savor local specialties at a village restaurant for about 45 minutes.

After lunch, travel another 30 minutes by train to the second village. Depending on the date and the itinerary chosen by your guide, you will explore the old town with its medieval fortification ruins and Baroque monuments, take a short hike for panoramic views, or visit a chapel featuring 15th-century frescoes (depending on the day of the week). During the peak summer season, there may also be an opportunity to swim in the river. Transportation between the train station and the village is provided via a dedicated shuttle along mountain roads.

After the tour, take the train back to Nice around 7:00 PM, where the tour concludes at Nice-Ville Station.
※ The villages visited and the itinerary may change depending on the weather, train schedules, and local conditions.
※ Expect to walk 4 to 10 km within the villages. There is a short but steep uphill walk to the monastery.
