Walk the streets of Washington D.C.
on Lincoln’s last night
Starting near the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, walk through Washington as it was on the last night of Lincoln’s life. Your local expert guide recounts the conspiracy, chaos and cover-up of the night of April 14, 1865, step by step on a tour of about 2 hours. You will also hear details featured in James Swanson’s bestseller Manhunt and the Apple TV+ series.
Pass Mary Surratt’s boarding house and Baptist Alley

Pass 604 H Street NW, now a Chinese restaurant and karaoke bar. This was once Mary Surratt’s boarding house, where Booth plotted with his co-conspirators. Then walk through Baptist Alley, where a horse waited for Booth’s escape, following his route that night.
Explore the Presidential Box and museum at Ford’s Theatre

Step inside Ford’s Theatre and spend about an hour seeing the stage, the Presidential Box and the museum below. Booth shot Lincoln in the Presidential Box, leapt onto the stage and fled through Baptist Alley. The museum displays the actual pistol used in the shooting, Booth’s diary and Lincoln’s bloodstained coat.
Finish at the Petersen House and the Aftermath exhibit

Cross the street to the Petersen House and visit the room where Lincoln died the next morning. Finally, explore the Aftermath exhibit covering the 12-day manhunt for Booth, the trial and Lincoln’s legacy. The tour ends at the Petersen House.
