Kayak to the sea caves in
the La Jolla Ecological Reserve
This guided tour of about 2 hours explores the sea cliffs and coastal caves of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve by kayak. A live English-speaking guide leads the way, and groups are limited to 10 people.
Get a lesson and gear up before you start
Check in at the La Jolla shop, then receive a safety briefing and a kayaking lesson. All the equipment you need, including a kayak, paddle, life jacket and helmet, is provided, and lockers and wetsuits can be rented on site at check-in.
Visit the 7 sea caves and Clam's Cave
Paddle for about 1.5 hours through all three habitats of the reserve: rocky reef, sand flats and kelp forest. Visit La Jolla's 7 caves one after another for a close look at the sandstone formations, and paddle inside Clam's Cave, the largest cave on the tour.
Meet sea lions and other marine life
Along the way you may see local marine life such as sea lions, harbor seals, garibaldi, leopard sharks and shovelnose guitarfish, and sometimes even dolphins. The tour ends back at the shop where it started.
