From Cairns: Rainforest, Platypus & Nocturnal Wildlife Tour - Small Group

Depart Cairns and
head to the Atherton Tablelands

After pickup from your accommodation in Cairns or the Northern Beaches, head south. At the first stop, meet the agile wallabies that live within the city limits, then continue up to the lush rainforest of the Atherton Tablelands.

Enjoy afternoon tea at Lake Barrine
and walk through the rainforest

Enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea with coffee, tea and refreshments at Lake Barrine, a crater lake, then walk the ancient rainforest trails with your guide. Look for daytime species such as the musky rat-kangaroo, Boyd's forest dragon, colorful rainforest birds, butterflies and flying foxes.

Search for wild platypus in Yungaburra
and have dinner

Head to a quiet platypus viewing area in Yungaburra to look for the platypus, a unique animal rarely seen in the wild. Afterwards, have dinner at a local restaurant in the historic village of Yungaburra, served with tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

Explore the rainforest at night
with spotlights

After dark, walk into the rainforest with your guide and use special spotlights to search for nocturnal animals. Look for rare native species such as Lumholtz's tree-kangaroo, the northern leaf-tailed gecko, ringtail possums, gliders, frogs and owls. You will arrive back at your accommodation in Cairns around 10:00 pm and in the Northern Beaches around 10:30 pm.
