Depart Alice Springs
and cross the outback to Uluru
After pickup outside your accommodation in Alice Springs, set off in an air-conditioned vehicle. At the first stop, Erldunda (home of the emu), you can buy breakfast and take a break. On the way across the outback you also visit the Mount Conner lookout, and as you approach Yulara, Uluru appears in the distance. Stop briefly for lunch in Yulara.
Learn Anangu traditions at the Cultural Centre
Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre near Uluru with your guide. Built from 90,000 mud bricks with the help of the local Anangu people, it is a place to learn about the Pitjantjatjara people, with time to shop for souvenirs.
Walk the Mala Walk and Mutitjulu Waterhole with your guide
Head to the base of mighty Uluru and follow your guide on the Mala Walk along its northwest side. See fascinating examples of Anangu rock art up close and hear ancient stories. Then drive to the back of Uluru and walk a short track to Mutitjulu Waterhole, home of the ancient water serpent Wanampi. Learn how the Anangu traditionally used the waterhole for hunting and hear about the rock art caves. Due to its cultural significance, climbing Uluru is not permitted.
Enjoy an Australian barbecue dinner with the Uluru sunset
With a glass of sparkling wine, a cold beer or a soft drink in hand, watch the sunset over Uluru and enjoy an Australian barbecue dinner. After sunset and dinner, return to Alice Springs and be dropped off at your accommodation.
