Meet your guide on Tiritiri Matangi Island
and get ready to snorkel

For the island meeting option, take the public ferry from Auckland to Tiritiri Matangi Island and meet your guide near the shelter next to the wharf. Ferry bookings and fares are not included, so please book your ferry by the day before the tour. After meeting your guide, receive a safety briefing of about 30 minutes along with fins, a mask and snorkel, and a warm wetsuit.

As there is no scheduled ferry to the island on Mondays and Tuesdays, a sea kayak option is offered for guests who want to visit the quieter island on those days. This option departs from the main entrance of the Sky Tower in Auckland.

Snorkel in clear waters

Snorkel for about 1.5 hours in the clear waters around Tiritiri Matangi Island and discover diverse marine life, including colorful fish. Your guide points out notable species and shares insights into the underwater ecosystem for a safe and educational experience.

Walk the sanctuary trails
and look for rare birds

After snorkeling, spend about 2 hours on an eco walk along the island trails, taking in the untouched scenery. Learn about the conservation of Tiritiri Matangi, managed as a pest-free sanctuary, and listen to the songs of native birds, including rare species such as the takahē and North Island kōkako.
