Board a floatplane on Lake Rotorua
and soar over the geothermal area

Depart from the Volcanic Air jetty on the Rotorua lakefront and climb for views of the city, Mokoia Island and Sulphur Bay. See how many of the region's 14 lakes you can spot during the flight.

Look down on Mount Tarawera and Waimangu Volcanic Valley

Fly along the slopes of Mount Tarawera, the dormant volcano whose great eruption reshaped Rotorua's landscape. Pass over the 17 km volcanic rift to see deep, colorful craters, the lake covering the Pink and White Terraces once called the Eighth Wonder of the World, and Waimangu Volcanic Valley.

After seeing the blue waters of Frying Pan Lake and Inferno Crater, continue south to view the geothermal landscape of Wai-O-Tapu, known for the Artist's Palette and Champagne Pool, from above.

Land on the Waikato River and walk Orakei Korako

Your pilot follows the Waikato River past native bush and river bends before landing on the water. At Orakei Korako Geothermal Park, you have an hour to walk at your own pace among hot springs, erupting geysers, bubbling mud pools, a geothermal cave and huge silica terraces. Before reboarding, you can buy coffee or snacks at the café (at your own expense).

Return to Rotorua over the Paeroa Range

On the return flight, pass over farmland and the Paeroa Range back to Rotorua, landing at the lakefront jetty where you started to finish your 2-hour experience.
