See Moraine Lake in the calm of
sunrise or sunset and starlight
This small-group tour takes you to Moraine Lake, the icon of Banff National Park, at times when crowds are thin. Choose either the sunrise tour or the sunset & stargazing tour. After pickup from hotels in Canmore and Banff, you travel by van for about 1 hour 45 minutes along mountain roads. The van stays in the parking lot throughout the tour, so your belongings are always close by.
Sunrise tour: arrive at the lakeshore before dawn

Depart early and reach Moraine Lake up to 45 minutes before sunrise. Enjoy free coffee, tea or hot chocolate and settle in comfortably with a comfort bag containing a headlamp, blanket and seat pad.
Walk a short way to the Rockpile with your guide, picking up photography tips and stories about the area's ecosystem and wildlife. Watch the morning light reach the Valley of the Ten Peaks, then explore the lakeshore at your own pace during free time before returning to Banff.
Sunset & stargazing tour: drive the Bow Valley Parkway to the lake

Begin with a scenic drive along the Bow Valley Parkway, known as habitat for elk, deer and bears. Stop for photos at Morant's Curve, then continue to Moraine Lake.
As the crowds leave in the evening, stroll along the lakeshore and climb the Rockpile to watch the sunset. Comfortable chairs, blankets and hot drinks let you relax as the sun sets over the Valley of the Ten Peaks.
Observe the night sky with telescopes and binoculars

After dark it is time for stargazing. With minimal light pollution at Moraine Lake, look for planets and constellations through telescopes and binoculars with your guide. If you are lucky, you may even see the northern lights.
※ Sunrise, sunset, stars, northern lights and wildlife are natural phenomena and sightings are not guaranteed.
※ If clouds, rain or snow limit visibility, stargazing time is shortened and time at Moraine Lake is extended.
※ The itinerary may change depending on local conditions.
