This group guided tour takes you to two of Rome's most iconic sights, above and below ground. At the Pantheon, with nearly 2,000 years of history, you explore its magnificent dome and the architecture and engineering of ancient Rome with your guide. Then you head into Vicus Caprarius (the City of Water), an underground archaeological site hidden beneath the Trevi Fountain, to see imperial-era dwellings and the water reservoir of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct. Admission tickets and headsets for listening to the guide are included, and the tour is led in English or Spanish.

The tour begins at the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved monuments of ancient Rome. Originally built as a temple dedicated to all the Roman gods, it has stood for nearly 2,000 years. With your guide, you take a close look at its enormous dome, elegant architecture and remarkable engineering.

Every year, countless travelers come to toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, but few know that archaeological remains lie hidden beneath it. You enter Vicus Caprarius (the City of Water), an underground complex discovered during restoration work in 1999, and explore remains of ancient Roman buildings, an imperial-era domus and medieval structures.

Inside the site, you can see the castellum aquae, a large reservoir that supplied the city with water through the Aqua Virgo aqueduct. Built about 2,000 years ago, the Aqua Virgo was one of the 11 aqueducts that brought water to ancient Rome, and part of it is still in use today. Its name, meaning 'pure water', is said to come from the legend of a young maiden (virgo) who led thirsty Roman soldiers to a spring.
Seeing the remains of different eras layered on top of each other, you get a clear sense of Rome's multi-layered history.
※ The tour runs regardless of the weather.
