This guided tour takes you by boat from Venice's San Marco area to two islands of the Venetian Lagoon, Murano and Burano. In Murano, you'll stop at a glass factory to watch artisans blow glass up close, then walk the island's streets and workshop stores with your guide. In Burano, lined with colorful houses, you'll hear stories about the island's history and culture and see a traditional lace-making demonstration. Depending on your option, you can add a visit to Torcello, a semi-private boat, or a tasting of Venetian specialties and wine.
Program
Board a boat in the San Marco area
and head to the lagoon islands
Meet your guide at the meeting point on Riva degli Schiavoni and board the boat. You'll cross the Venetian Lagoon for about 20 minutes to your first stop, Murano. The whole tour takes about 4.5 to 5.5 hours.
Watch a glass-blowing demonstration in Murano
In Murano, you'll spend about 30 minutes at a glass factory watching an artisan blow and shape glass live. Then you'll walk Murano's streets and artisan shops with your guide for about 1 hour, learning about the island's glassmaking craft.
See lace making in colorful Burano
Another boat ride of about 30 minutes brings you to Burano, famous for its brightly colored houses. During about 2 hours on the island, your guide shares its history and culture, and you can see a demonstration of the traditional lace making that made Burano famous. There are plenty of photogenic lanes, too.
Add Torcello or a specialty tasting with your option
Options including Torcello offer free time to explore Torcello and Burano. The specialties & wine option lets you enjoy selected Venetian specialties with a glass of local wine or prosecco. The semi-private option takes you around the islands on a typical Venetian boat with a local skipper. At the end, you'll ride about 30 minutes back to Riva degli Schiavoni, where you started.
