Program
Start in St. Mark's Square
and enter the golden St. Mark's Basilica
Meet your guide in St. Mark's Square and begin the tour with an introduction to Venice's iconic landmarks. Enter St. Mark's Basilica, known as the "Church of Gold," with a timed ticket and admire its history dating back to the 11th century and its Byzantine golden mosaics with your guide's commentary. There is also time for photos in the square and in front of St. Mark's Campanile.
Pass through the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs
Continue to the Doge's Palace, the center of political power of the Venetian Republic. Walk through halls filled with Renaissance art, climb the Golden Staircase and cross the Bridge of Sighs to the New Prisons. Your guide explains how rulers, prisoners and merchants shaped the Republic.
Cruise the canals on a shared gondola for 30 minutes
After the walking tour, ride a shared gondola steered by a gondolier for 30 minutes, passing historic bridges and waterfront palaces along the canals. Then have lunch on your own near St. Mark's Square for about 1 hour.
Visit Murano and Burano by private boat
In the afternoon, meet your tour leader again and cross the lagoon by private boat. On Murano, with its 1,200-year glassmaking tradition, visit a glass factory for a glassblowing demonstration. On Burano, watch a lace-making demonstration by artisans who have passed the craft down through generations, then enjoy free time among the colorful fishermen's houses. Finally, return by boat to St. Mark's Square, where the tour ends.
