Własnoręczne robienie pałeczek sprawiło nam więcej frajdy niż byśmy przypuszczali. Godzina zabawy, której wynikiem jest piękna pamiątka z Japonii - własnoręcznie zrobione i ozdobione pałeczki. Jeden minus - angielski Pani, która się nami zajmowała był słaby a porozumiewanie się przez translator nieco psuło zabawę.

Lovely way to spend 1.5 hours learning how to make our own chopsticks. My 12 year old son and I really enjoyed it. Our host was so sweet and helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend as any kind of group or family activity to do something chill (gotta use some arm muscles!) and wonderful souvenir to take home. My son enjoyed it so much he wants to come back again next time ! Thank you for teaching us how to make traditional chopsticks.

Make your own pair of chopsticks from natural wood at a cozy workshop in central Sapporo. Choose your favorite from woods such as cypress, cherry and walnut, each with its own color, scent and texture. Guided by the instructor, you shape and smooth the wood with traditional tools until the chopsticks fit your hand perfectly. With a maximum of 8 participants, you can learn step by step and take your finished chopsticks home as a souvenir of your trip.

Make your own natural wood
chopsticks at a Sapporo studio

This chopstick making class takes place at a studio in central Sapporo and lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes. The instructor leads the class in English, with up to 8 participants. Wood, tools and an apron are all provided, so you can come empty-handed.

Choose from woods with different colors, scents and textures

First, choose the wood for your chopsticks. Learn about the color, scent and texture of each type, then pick your favorite from options such as cypress, cherry and walnut.

Shape the wood with traditional tools

Using a special plane and file, gradually shave the wood to create chopsticks with the thickness and length that feel comfortable in your hand. The instructor shows you how to use the tools and how to shape the wood.

Sand them smooth and take them home

Finally, sand your chopsticks to a smooth finish until the natural luster of the wood comes through. Enjoy the scent and feel of the wood as you work, then take your chopsticks home. The activity ends back at the studio, the meeting point.
