Walk across Falljökull glacier in Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland, with an expert guide and see the blue walls of a natural ice cave up close. All glacier safety equipment, including crampons, a helmet, an ice axe and a harness, is provided, so you can walk on the ice with confidence even if it is your first time. Groups are limited to 12 people per guide, making it easy to listen and ask questions. You travel from the Skaftafell base camp to the edge of the glacier by 4x4 bus.

Gear up at Skaftafell base camp
and head to the edge of the glacier
Meet your expert guide at the Skaftafell base camp, receive your glacier safety equipment such as crampons, a helmet, an ice axe and a harness, and listen to a safety briefing. Then ride a 4x4 bus for about 20 to 25 minutes to the foot of Falljökull glacier. Tours run in small groups of up to 12 people per guide and are conducted in English.
Hike between icy ridges and crevasses

Once on the glacier, hike for about 2.5 hours across an ice field of frozen ridges and deep blue crevasses. Pass unique formations such as moulins, deep vertical glacier shafts, and sharp ice ridges while your guide explains how the glacier formed and how it is changing today.
See the blue walls of a natural ice cave

Enter the ice cave and take time to explore and photograph its blue ice walls shaped by nature. Because glaciers are constantly moving, the caves change every year. Your guide chooses which ice cave to visit based on the conditions and safety of the day.
Return to base camp

After the hike, cross the ice back down and ride the 4x4 bus back to the Skaftafell base camp, where the tour ends.
※ Ice caves are an ever-changing natural phenomenon, so the cave visited depends on conditions and safety.
※ The itinerary may change depending on local conditions.
