Walk the hidden labyrinth
of medieval Plzeň
Explore with your guide the maze of passages, cellars, and wells built beneath Plzeň from the early 13th century. Learn how the underground was created and how it was used in many different ways, and discover the history of the medieval town and the daily lives of its citizens through exhibits and artifacts.
Pass through the ice cellar and brewing cellars

The tour starts in the so-called ice cellar, once used to store ice. It sat at the top level of the ingenious cellar system of the houses with brewing rights, and meltwater flowed down to cool the fermentation and lager cellars below. The cellars, built from the late 13th century, were originally used to store food but were just as important for fermenting, maturing, and storing beer.
Explore the passages and water tower that protected the town

Over time, the cellars were expanded and deepened, in places forming up to two connected levels. In times of war and unrest, the underground became part of the town's defense system, serving as safe food storage, a shelter for residents, and a passageway. At Plzeň's historic water tower, built in the first half of the 16th century, you can see the remains of pumping machinery used in 1847 and a replica of a water wheel.
Receive a can of beer at the Brewery Museum

The tour ends in the Brewery Museum building, where participants aged 18 and over receive a can of beer.
※ The underground temperature is around 6°C all year round, so please bring warm clothing.
※ Under Czech law, beer is served only to visitors aged 18 and over.
