Jing'an Temple stands amid the high-rises and busy traffic of Shanghai's West Nanjing Road business district. First built during the Three Kingdoms period, it has more than 1,700 years of history, and the Jing'an district takes its name from the temple. Once you pass through the temple gate, a calm atmosphere unfolds, far removed from the busy streets.

Admire traditional Han-style architecture with Tibetan aesthetics

With red walls, gilded tiles and upturned eaves, the buildings blend traditional Han-style design with Tibetan aesthetics. When the sun shines, the golden roofs glow brightly and wind chimes ring softly, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

See the halls and the giant Jade Buddha

The Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall and Hall of Three Saints stand side by side in order. You can see many precious relics, including a giant Jade Buddha carved from a single piece of Burmese white jade, Buddha statues and intricate stone and wood carvings.

The towering Jing'an Pagoda within the temple grounds stands in striking contrast to the halls. In the courtyard where sandalwood incense rises, you can pray or take a walk and find a moment of peace in the middle of the city.
