Meet your guide in front of the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and enter The Last Supper museum with priority entry. Commissioned in 1495 and painted in 1497 on the wall of the Dominican convent's refectory, the painting captures the moment right after Christ says, "One of you will betray me."

The mural, 4.6 m high and 8.8 m long, was painted by applying chalk and then using tempera and oil, unlike the techniques of the time. The site was badly damaged by bombing in 1943 but was later fully restored, and The Last Supper miraculously survived. Today the air composition, light and humidity are carefully controlled, and the number of people allowed in at one time is limited.
